On 8 February a new ‘Diagnostic Hub’ was opened at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant by Vaughan Gething, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services to expand radiology capacity in South Wales. The Hub is part of the wider health board agenda to improve waiting times and speed up diagnosis of serious illnesses, especially cancer, where mortality rates in Cwm Taf are the highest in Wales. Cwm Taf University Health Board has also appointed Wales’ first consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine. Dr Rhodri Martin’s role with the Health Board offers the same expertise to his patients as football stars such as Gareth Bale or Aaron Ramsey, as he is also the pitch-side doctor for the Wales football team.
