Rate of criminal damage and arson per 1,000 people. Police recorded crime data are supplied to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) by the Home Office. Police recorded criminal damage results from any person who without lawful excuse destroys or damages any property belonging to another, intending to destroy or damage any such property or being reckless as to whether any such property would be destroyed or damaged. Arson is the act of deliberately setting fire to property, including buildings and vehicles. The rate was calculated using the previous year’s population mid-year estimate. |
